Trout Lake

Know Your Trout Lake

• A headwater lake of the Mattawa River system - a Canadian Heritage River!
• Deep, cold-water lake, classified as “oligotrophic” (low plant nutrients; high dissolved oxygen)
• Mean depth of 17.2 m and maximum depth of 63 m
• Two outlets: one at its east end draining into Turtle Lake and one at its west end draining into the City’s water system
• Delaney Bay provides the water supply for North Bay

Be an On-the-Water Ambassador

• Make sure you have all required equipment under Transport Canada Regulations
• You must operate your watercraft in a safe and courteous manner and ensure the safety of your passengers. Failure to do so could result in fines and penalties

Trout Lake Boating Etiquette

• Control your wakes and slow down when being passed
• Respect the 30 m no-go zone adjacent to private properties to protect shorelines, structures and aquatic habitats
• Wave hello!

Provincial Boating Regulations

• Horsepower Age Restrictions:
     Under 12: Maximum 10HP
     Age 12-15: Maximum 40HP
     16 and Over: No Restrictions
• Jetskis and Sea Doos cannot be operated by anyone under 16.
• All operators must have a valid Ontario pleasure craft operator's card.

Catch Your Limit

Fishing prohibited in sanctuaries located west of Poplar Island and south of Camp Island between May 15th and July 31st

Restrictions on eating certain species of fish from Trout Lake due to Mercury and PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances)

Do not release live bait into Trout Lake

Help Protect Trout Lake

• Plan your trip before you embark
• Avoid transporting invasive species from other waterbodies – pressure wash your boat and equipment and drain your bilge water before you launch - See Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers for more information
• Practice Leave no Trace and Pack-it-in / Pack-it-out If you see litter, stop and pick it up
• Remember you are boating on, fishing in, or swimming in the source of drinking water for more than 50,000 people
